SDCHA Members line up to watch their fellow competitors Loping Pen Rules It’s that time of year again when we need to gently remind everyone of the loping pen “ground rules”. Following these simple guidelines can save everyone a lot of aggravation as well as keep it safe. Stay to the inside if you want to go slow. Stay to the outside if you want to go fast. Try not to bunch up and talk or stand still in traffic. Be kind and let people in and out of traffic. Never stop quickly in traffic. Groom and apply boots out of the way of traffic. Do not tie your horse to a panel or other loose object, find something secure. Do not tie kicking or biting horses in the loping pen. Be aware of what your stallion is tied next to. Maintain one direction. Do not pony when space does not allow it. Always be in control of your horse. Yield to tractors and pedestrians. Keep your sense of humor! Especially here at the SDCHA, where we cater to families and new members, we need to remember that we all get nervous or get in a hurry from time to time. Let’s try to be patient with each other and most of all have a good time. For more information see the NCHA Rule Book
